From BER airport (approx. 60 min. – ABC Ticket, EUR 4.40)

  1. From the train station – that is about 300 m from the airport - take the regional train “Airport Express” (RE7, RB14) till “Zoologischer Garten”;
  2. From “Zoologischer Garten” take the U-Bahn 9 till “Rathaus Steglitz”;
  3. From “Rathaus Steglitz” take Bus X83 till “Königin-Luise-Platz/Botanischer Garten“.

From the central station – Hauptbahnhof, Hbf (approx. 30 min. – AB Ticket, EUR 3.50)

  1. Take the S-Bahn (S5, S7, S75) or the train (RE1, RE2, RE7, RE14) till “Zoologischer Garten”;
  2. From “Zoologischer Garten” take the U-Bahn 9 till “Rathaus Steglitz”;
  3. From “Rathaus Steglitz” take Bus X83 till “Königin-Luise-Platz/Botanischer Garten“.

Public transport in Berlin (BVG)   

The public transport in Berlin is run by the company “BVG“.

Four different means of transportation are available (Timetables, Routes & Maps):

Tickets
A single-ride ticket that allows you to use all means of transportation for one-way trips in the city cost EUR 3.50 and is valid for 2 hours (AB Ticket). Tickets can be purchased at vending machines or counters of S-Bahn and U-Bahn stations and at some news-stands (Kiosk). There you can also find day tickets, 4-trip tickets, short-trip tickets, weekly passes and more. Please note that vending machines do not accept high-denomination banknotes.

Operating hours
The public transport usually operates between ca. 4:30 am and 0:30 am during the week (with the exception of some night bus lines that run the whole night). During the weekend, S-Bahn and subway trains as well as some buses operate the whole night.

Services in the Gardens and Museum building

Opening times

Access to the Gardens for guest students and researchers via the museum building from Monday to Friday from 7am to 6pm.
The Botanic Museum is closed for reconstruction until 2024.
The library is open from Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm.
Special arrangements to use the facilities beyond the regular opening times can be made upon request.

Food and drinks

  • In the Garden. In the Witschaftshof, at the eastern corner of the Garden, there is the so-called “Gardeners’ cafeteria” where hot meals are served on weekdays from 12 a.m. to 1 p.m. In summer, a restaurant opens in the Garden next to the “Unter den Eichen” entrance, as well as a café near the greenhouses.
  • Surroundings. At the Cafeteria of the Institute of Pharmacy - Königin-Luise Str. 4 - you can get sandwiches, hot drinks and hot meals (at lunch time). A broader choice of warm dishes is offered by the canteen of the “Biologische Bundesanstalt” - Königin-Luise Str. 19.

The main cafeteria of the Freie Universität is not far (Otto-von-Simson-Str. 26) and offers a large selection of hot and cold dishes at low prices.
