Research Group Asterales

Comprising, among others, the sunflower family (Asteraceae or Compositae) as the largest angiosperm family, and the bellflower family (Campanulaceae), with the bellflower as one of Europe's genera richest in endemics, the order Asterales represents a remarkably successful, derived branch of the angiosperms with a worldwide distribution.

Our research approaches this group with a variety of methods, at all ranks and in different geographical regions, aiming at a deeper understanding of the evolution of the tremendous diversity in this group.
