In the year 2013, eight years after Victoria House was closed, building work gets underway and finished in 2017. Analogous to the refurbishment of the Great Tropical Greenhouse the Victoria House was exposed to the foundation walls and brought in line with the state of the art. But not only the Victoria House was renovated; the many-branched district network as well as part of the heating supply system are also being renewed. Pipes that are more than a hundred years old were replaced and a new biogas-operated district heating power station is now running 24 hours a day and more than 300 days a year.
